August 2015

Last month, the House Appropriations Committee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies voted in favor of an FY2016 appropriations bill that would decrease funding for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) by nearly $164 million (see “House and Senate Appropriations Committees Vote to Cut Education Spending,” AERA Highlights, July 2015).

In response to these cuts, AERA and the Learning and Education Academic Research Network (LEARN) have drafted a letter to House members from the broader research community that expresses strong opposition to the cuts and calls for the funding to be restored. The proposed cuts have the potential to undermine critical research and halt progress for students across the country.

AERA is collecting signatures from organizations and individuals. If you would like to add your name or the name of the organization you represent, please click here and complete the form by Thursday, September 3. AERA also encourages members and others to share the letter with colleagues who might be interested in signing.

If you have any questions, please contact Juliane Baron, director of government relations, at [email protected].
