Two AERA journals are ranked in the top ten of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), released in June 2015. AERA’s journals are included in the “Education and Educational Research” category, which includes 224 peer-reviewed scholarly journals from around the world.
JCR ranked journals by their 2014 impact factor, which is the total number of 2014 citations of each journal’s 2012 and 2013 articles, divided by the journal’s total number of articles published during those two years.
For the third consecutive year, Review of Educational Research (RER) placed first in the rankings with an impact factor of 3.897, with 4,697 cites. RER has held a top-three position for six consecutive years. The top-cited article was published in 2012 (Volume 82, Issue 1): “Our Princess Is in Another Castle: A Review of Trends in Serious Gaming for Education,” by a team of authors from the University of Connecticut (Michael F. Young et al.).
Two AERA journals rose significantly in the rankings. The Review of Research in Education (RRE) jumped 58 spots to #22, placing it in the top 10 percent of journals in the “Education and Educational Research” category. The Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics (JEBS), cosponsored by the American Statistical Association, rose 13 spots (50th out of 224) from its 2013 position. It was also ranked 17th of 46 in the “Social Sciences, Mathematical Methods” category.
