Call for Nominations for REAPA Awards


2015 OUTSTANDING DISSERTATION AWARD

Description of Award and Requirements:
The Outstanding Dissertation Award highlights the work of a scholar whose dissertation research represents a unique and important contribution to the field of Asian Americans and/or Pacific Islanders and education. Nominees are invited from all disciplines and do not need to be members of the REAPA SIG. Both faculty and self-nominations are strongly encouraged.

Only individuals who completed their dissertations between June 30, 2012 and December 31, 2014 are eligible for nomination.

The deadline for submitting a nomination is Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Selected finalists will be asked to submit their entire dissertations to the committee for full review. The Outstanding Dissertation Award winner will be announced in February of 2015, prior to the annual meeting.

Award nominations must include the following documents:

1.    A brief nomination letter (2 single-spaced page, maximum) addressed to the awards committee that explains:

a.    Why this individual should be considered for the Dissertation Award, and

b.    How the nominee’s research advances the field of Asian Americans and/or Pacific Islanders and education.

2.    A dissertation summary, not to exceed 15 double-spaced pages of text (this does not include title page and references) in Word format, that includes the following components:

a.    Introduction and problem statement/thesis.

b.    Purpose and research question(s).

c.    Statement of the significance of the study to research on the education of Asian Americans and/or Pacific Islanders.

d.    Summary of the literature review.

e.    Description of methods and procedures.

f.      Summary of the major findings.

g.    Implications of the study for educational policy and practice.

h.    Reference list.

Nominated applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

1.    The inclusion of all required elements (mentioned above).

2.    Clarity and coherence of writing.

3.    Contribution of the findings to existing knowledge about APAs in education.

4.    The potential impact of the findings on educational policy and practice. 


2015 DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD

Description of Award and Requirements:
This award is presented to a scholar whose program of research has had a significant impact on our understanding of Asian Americans and/or Pacific Islanders and education. Nominees and recipients of the Distinguished Scholar Award may be from any discipline and they do not need to be REAPA members. Self-nominations are also encouraged.

The deadline for submitting a nomination is Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. PST. The Distinguished Scholar winner will be announced in February 2015, prior to the annual meeting. Award nominations must include the following documents:

1.    A brief nomination letter (2 single-spaced page, maximum) addressed to the awards committee that explains:

a. Why this individual should be considered for the Distinguished Scholar Award. 

b. The nominee’s scholarly contributions to the field of APA education.

2.    The nominee’s current curriculum vitae.
